Neon/Grau

Anna Lux, Jonas Brückner / German / 2025 / 336 Pages

Between neon and grey, the stories of the East shimmer with all their contradictions. Pop culture captures these stories—in novels, films, and rap. Neon/Grau brings them together, setting them in dialogue and exploring themes of freedom and loss, belonging and exclusion, youth in transition, gender relations, and life in rural spaces. These perspectives are enriched by interviews with artists who have engaged deeply with the East. Neon/Grau reveals a chorus of voices, shedding light on the ambivalences that often remain invisible within dominant narratives.
