At the age of 16, Soraya begins documenting her story. As an Afghan artist in Iran, she processes fear and longing in dark, poetic drawings and sculptures. Over the years, she documents her attempts to flee and her everyday life, navigating between Iran and her desire to see her mother again in Austrian exile. Cellphone recordings of border controls, news from Afghanistan, and very personal moments interweave with Soraya's art. Drawings, sculptures, and animations become part of a self-portrait that tells of violence, resistance, and the desire for a self-determined life.
