A Fox Under a Pink Moon
Mehrdad Oskouei, Soraya Akhlaghi / Iran, France, United Kingdom, United States, Denmark / 2025 / 76 min
At the age of 16, Soraya began documenting her story. As an Afghan artist in Iran, she processes fear and longing through dark, poetic drawings and sculptures. Over the years, she records her everyday life and her attempts to flee, navigating between Iran and her desire to reunite with her mother in Austrian exile. Cellphone recordings of border controls, news from Afghanistan, and intimate personal moments intertwine with Soraya's art. Drawings, sculptures, and animations become part of a self-portrait that speaks of violence, resistance, and the pursuit of a self-determined life.
On May 30 at 6 p.m., a conversation between Soraya Akhlaghi and Mahnaz Mohammadi will take place as part of the DX Hub. Your film ticket also grants you access to this event.
