Human Rights Beyond The Human (Colombia)

Belkis Izquierdo Torres, Lieselotte Viaene, Mariona Guiu, Rocío Westendorp / Colombia / 2025 / 24 min

The two short documentaries within the project Human Rights Beyond the Human—each with their own distinct lives—challenge dominant legal frameworks by foregrounding more-than-human voices and Indigenous jurisprudence. Set in Nepal and Colombia, they explore the clash between Indigenous knowledge systems and dominant legal regimes that often fail to recognize the agency of invisible guardians of the land. Through intimate storytelling and immersive cinematography, the films reveal not only a struggle, but also a possibility of another path. Together, they offer a powerful reflection on legal pluralism, spirituality, and resistance to extractivism.
