New Wave
Elizabeth Ai / United States / 2024 / 88 min
Immaculately styled hair, underground parties, and a new blend of punk and rock music emerged in the 1980s: New Wave. Accompanied by the sounds of its music, director Elizabeth Ai takes a personal and vulnerable look back at her own past. As a young mother, the Vietnamese-American film-maker reflects on her childhood, which she spent in the care of her aunt, and her difficult relationship with her own mother. Together with singer Lynda Trang Đài and Ian “DJ BPM” Nguyen, they dive into the nostalgia of New Wave music.
