They Call Me the Tattoo Witch

Lindsay Nyman / United States / 2024 / 14 min

In Hanoi, tattoo artist Tran Ngoc transforms scars into personal works of art, helping her clients reclaim a sense of agency over their bodies. Marks left by cancer, self-harm, or trauma are turned into symbols of resilience and renewal. In Vietnamese society, where tattoos still often carry stigma, she offers a compassionate and empowering space for women to heal and redefine their relationship with their physical selves. Each piece she creates tells a story of pain, courage, and transformation, revealing the profound power of rewriting one’s own story.
