Grace seeks to disrupt the stigmatization of addiction by opening new spaces for engagement: first, by fostering a more empathetic and collective understanding of addiction grounded in shared experience; and second, by demonstrating how AI can be harnessed as a sensitive creative medium—one that preserves the emotional depth, nuance, and authenticity of lived experience.
Grace
Silke Botsch / Germany / 2026 / 65 min
Grace follows a recovering addict on an emotional return to reality after over 5,000 days of sobriety. AI-generated imagery preserves anonymity while revealing inner transformation. The film tells an intimate, raw story about community, self-reflection, and the global stigma of addiction. Inspired by twelve-step programs, it traces the fragile process of building a new life through honesty, mutual support, and trust—growing through connection with others who share lived experience.
