Doxumentale, the festival for documentary film, non-fiction literature, and new media, will take place for the third time in Berlin from May 27 to June 7, 2026—and is establishing itself as a summer festival for documentary storytelling.
With screenings, readings, live podcasts, music, art, and a virtual reality exhibition, Doxumentale presents a program as diverse in form and subject matter as the perspectives it brings together. International filmmakers, authors, and podcasters will be present to engage in conversation with audiences.
As in previous years, the festival will take place in numerous beloved neighborhood cinemas, as well as music clubs and exclusive venues across Berlin. New venues this year include KLICK Kino in Charlottenburg, BALI Kino in Zehlendorf, and hofkino.berlin in Friedrichshain.
“In times of increasing polarization, Doxumentale aims to create a space for encounter: a place where both the brutality and the beauty of the world can be experienced—and where we try to truly understand the perspectives of others,” says festival director Anna Ramskogler-Witt.
The films explore themes of self-determination and resistance, memory and social change. Art, music, and dance take center stage alongside pressing political and societal questions.
Among the first confirmed titles are:
A FOX UNDER A PINK MOON (Berlin Premiere)
Mehrdad Oskouei | 2025 | 76 min
As an Afghan artist in Iran, Soraya Akhlaghi has been processing fear and longing through drawings, sculptures, and mobile phone videos since her youth. Over the years, a deeply personal self-portrait emerges—exploring displacement, violence, memory, and the desire for a self-determined life.
OMEGA WANTS TO DANCE (German Premiere)
Ramon Tort | ES | 2025 | 92 min
People have always used dance as a way to express themselves and experience a sense of community. The film follows individuals across Asia, Europe, North and Latin America, showing how movement makes identity, belonging, and social change visible in different cultural contexts.
Further program highlights include MAINTENANCE ARTIST (Toby Perl Freilich, German Premiere), PUNK UNDER COMMUNIST REGIME (Andrej Kosak, German Premiere), REDLIGHT TO LIMELIGHT (Bipuljit Basu, German Premiere), THE BEAUTY OF THE DONKEY (Dea Gjinovci, Berlin Premiere), THE BLIND COUPLE FROM MALI (Ryan Marley, Berlin Premiere), and TRADE SECRET (German Premiere).
This year, the special D’Lounge series once again brings together six documentary films, performances, and live music in an evening program set in distinctive locations.
The film PUNK UNDER COMMUNIST REGIME will be screened at the punk club SO36 in Kreuzberg. As in previous years, an event is also planned at the renowned Berlin techno club Tresor Globus in Mitte.
With Die Achtsamkeitsfalle by Diana Kinnert—a critique of the neoliberal appropriation of self-optimization—and Wo die Kaffeekirschen leuchten by Nicola Denis—a multi-generational narrative about migration and colonial continuities—Doxumentale expands its program to include literary perspectives on societal issues.
With podcasts such as VR Women and vodcasts like Freaks No More!, the festival opens up an acoustic space for documentary storytelling that reflects on identity and social labeling. The accompanying professional program, D’Hub, will be reimagined in 2026 as a curated boutique format, enabling international exchange in a more focused setting.
You can find the first program highlights here. The full program will be announced in mid-April.
Discounted early bird passes are now available online. The 5+5 Pass (5 festival events + 5 films as stream) currently costs €60 (€45 reduced), and the Unlimited Festival Pass €72 (€56 reduced).
Doxumentale (May 27 – June 7, 2026) is an international Berlin-based festival for documentary storytelling. At the intersection of documentary film, non-fiction literature, podcasts, and new media, it showcases formats that bring filmmakers, journalists, authors, artists, scientists, and audiences into dialogue.
From May 28 to 31, D’Hub—the professional program of Doxumentale—brings international experts from film, media, culture, academia, and civil society to Berlin. Panels, workshops, and networking events provide space for interdisciplinary exchange and new collaborations. A highlight is The Good Media Pitch, Germany’s first film and impact program that connects selected projects with experts from civil society for potential partnerships.
Doxumentale is organized by The Good Media Network and is made possible in large part through funding from Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.
