The Journalistic Interview: Craft, Instinct and Presence

30 May, 2026, 11.00 AM @ Festival Center: Atrium Tower

Event language: English

What makes a strong interview and how do you prepare for one? Drawing on more than two decades of experience, Milan has spoken to hundreds of public figures - from the Serbian prime minister to Moby, Garry Kasparov, and countless artists, activists, and political leaders around the world.

This session explores the craft of the journalistic interview from research to real-time instinct. How to research a person, who should you talk to  and how do you prepare when time is short? Why is it often better to ask an honest, seemingly “simple” question than a clever one that leads nowhere? What happens if your interviewee starts crying? What if you do? And finally, why email interviews are — without exception — the worst. A candid, practice-driven session on curiosity, preparation, and presence. Part masterclass, part open conversation, the session combines practical advice, field-tested examples, and space for questions on preparation, interviewing techniques, and difficult moments in live conversation.
